H2 Reading List

Half the year has gone by and I could not do much of reading till now. Most of the reading has been on the technical front, it being the subject matter of Data Science, Meteor, Ruby on Rails etc. On the fiction side, I managed just a few books like A Bad Character by Deepti Kapoor and The Madras Mangler by Usha Narayanan.

Currently I am reading short stories by H.H. Munro and Chekhov. Reading, just like most other activities, is often opportunistic than planned. As time passes, you suddenly realize that you have not read any of the stuff you wanted to read.

So I thought it fit to make a to-do reading list for the second half of this year. The list is given below. I may be reading other books based on necessity or recommendation, but these are the ones I am determined to complete just for the pleasure of reading.

Six out of the ten are first-time reads and four are the ones I had already read in the past. The list is only of English books, I have a separate selection of Telugu books which I am not listing here. The order given below may not necessarily be the order in which I will be reading.

1. India Shastra : Reflections on the Nation in our Time by Shashi Tharoor.
2. David and Goliath by Malcolm Gladwell. This one recommended by Kal.
3. A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry. This one’s been pending for long.
4. Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs by Harold Abelson, Gerald Jay Sussman, Julie Sussman.
5. The Mind’s I : Fantasies and Reflections on Self and Soul by Daniel C. Dennett and Douglas R. Hofstadter.
6. I am a Strange Loop : 0 by Douglas R. Hofstadter.

Rereads
7. I’m OK -- You’re OK by Thomas Harris.
8. Blink by Malcolm Gladwell.
9. The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy.
10. The Argumentative Indian by Amartya Sen.
